A pāhoehoe lava flow, hardened mid cascade. This type of lava has a lower viscosity than ʻaʻā which tends to cool more quickly and produce jagged edges. In contrast, pāhoehoe flows move more freely and are slower to cool. This type of molten rock is capable of hardening into uniquely strange and beautiful globular formations.
